It can happen in a flash. One minute she’s kissing her boyfriend, the next she’s lost in the woods. Sixteen-year-old Ellie Cox is losing time. It started out small…forgetting a drive home or a conversation with a friend. But her blackouts are getting worse, more difficult to disguise as forgetfulness. When Ellie goes missing for three days, waking up in the apartment of a mysterious guy—a guy who is definitely not her boyfriend, her life starts to spiral out of control.
Perched on the edge of insanity, with horrific memories of her childhood leaking in, Ellie struggles to put together the pieces of what she’s lost—starting with the name haunting her, Gwen. Heartbreakingly beautiful, this poignant story follows one girl’s harrowing journey to finding out who she really is.
My Rating: 5 stars
Review - I don't know why but for some reason I got it in my mind when I first requested this book that it was about parallel universes and maybe it was because I had been looking at a different book that was about that or whatever but that's what I thought. I was wrong. I don't know what to say about this book without giving away the whole plot and ruining the book for you, I feel like allot of people might figure it out from the description or just within the first few chapters, that's when I started to realize what it was but I still don't want to spoil it for anyone so this review might be fairly vague.
Let's see there are all the feels in this book, including annoyance for me at the first half of the book, I figured out what was going on and it was all very important to the story but I feel like the goods, the best heart wrenching parts, came in the second half. The first half is still good and important and with what this book is it was done the way it had to be and really well but the second half, that's the half that started really playing with my emotions and making my heart hurt for the characters and just all the feelings.
-Ellie - She wasn't my favorite character, I don't know why, but in a way she was still perfect. I hated her relationship with Shane, again I don't know why I just never really felt their love for each other. But for what was going on she was perfect and really well written, at her parts I really felt for her just like in Gwen's parts I felt for her.
- Gwen - Oh my jeez all the feelings I have for Gwen, I wouldn't necessarily say I liked Gwen more but she really made me feel for her when her time came, I hated her for Ellie and then I loved her for herself, if that makes any sort of sense.
- Shane - Meh. He wasn't a bad character but meh.
- Griffin - I loved Griffin, I just did and at the end I felt so so sad for him.
The Other Things -
- So, this is kinda of a really heavy subject and just not something you see very often in a book I think and it was done so very well and the writing was so beautiful and just so good and amazing and all the other words. Again I don't want to give anything away and maybe everyone else is smarter than me and from the description alone knows what it is going on in this book but if it's not just me than I don't want to give it away, just know it is heart wrenching and oh so good.
Overall - This was a weird review for an awesome book and let's just end by saying I don't think it's a book that I will be forgetting for a very long time.
