Delirium TV Show Pilot Review

Song Of The Moment -The World Spins Madly On by The Weepies

So I'm sure by now you have at least heard about how the pilot for the Delirium tv show staring Emma Roberts as Lena is free to watch on Hulu right now. So I wasn't going to watch it because either it would suck or it would be awesome and there is no more(I think?). But I decided to watch it and now I'm going to do a short review of it.

First of all let me say that I love this series of books, like I even liked the ending of Requiem which not a lot of fans can say. I mean I won the Ultimate Delirium Fan contest that Epic Reads held last year, that shows commitment, right?

So basically it is a version of all of book 1 in one 45 min episode and it is so bad, like I just want to laugh at how bad it is. Not just compared to the book even having never read the book I would think it was a bad show.
First of all I feel like if you haven't read the book you would not know what was going on at all. I liked Emma Roberts as Lena but that's all I liked. It's rushed and just so lame. It's like trying to be all dramatic but the dialogue is bad and the acting is bad and it's not hard to see why it was never picked up for a full season.
There is so much going on is this that is so off from the books, I mean Lena and Alex met, fall in love and escape to the wilds in one episode! I mean what was the rest of the show supposed to even be about? They went through a whole book in one episode and nothing happened! It was literally the worst case of insta love I have ever seen!
It was just so lame and overly dramatic and all around cringe worthy. All I could do while watching this is laugh nervously and repeat to myself "What is even going on? What the heck is this?". Alex was just a horrible character in this show he was like creepy and stalker like. And then there was Julian who was like a sick and confused puppy and there was what I think was a hint of a coming romance between him and Hana, what? and Hana was just wrong. I honestly can't think of one thing I liked about this pilot episode and I am fairly confident that the show would have failed if it had been picked up. I mean I've read and loved the books and even I didn't know what was going on half the time!

Over all this is an epic fail.

Have you watched the delirium pilot? If so, thoughts? If not, do you plan to?

My Reviews Of These Books

  1. I will not be watching the pilot. Nope. I just know it's going to be a huge waste of my time. It sucks that they were trying to fit pretty much the whole book in one pilot. Like what was supposed to happen in the rest of the series? (if it were picked up).

    1. Exactly! Like shouldn't the whole first season be the whole first book?(if it were picked up) And because of that it just seemed so stupid! I mean Lena ran away with a guy(Alex), who acts like a creepy stalker, like two days after meeting him! It was just so bad and yes a waste of time. =)

  2. I watched it when it first aired. Totally sucks! I swear that I read a totally different story. They dropped the ball on that one. If only they'd taken the time to get it right. Don't they know that us 'fangirls' analyse every single detail of book-to-movie/TV, especially if we love the books! Total fail!

  3. Right there with you! It is SO, so incredibly bad. I didn't make it through, so kudos to you for sticking it out. I seriously couldn't do it, I was cringing the whole time. I tried twice, but never made it past 20 minutes. The guy who plans Alex is a mess, and I kind of can't stand Emma Roberts. And why did everyone look alike? I was so confused.

And you are so right- even non-readers would have hated this mess. I wish someone could have taken the book and done it more justice, maybe in a movie or something. But sad to say, I am glad it didn't get picked up.

  4. I didn't know Hulu was showing pilots now, though it's a great idea for getting a larger test audience. If it does get picked up, they'll probably/hopefully redo the first episode, but it sounds like it won't be any great loss if they toss it. ;)
