Description -
Twelve-year-old Sophie Foster has a secret. She’s a Telepath—someone who hears the thoughts of everyone around her. It’s a talent she’s never known how to explain.

Everything changes the day she meets Fitz, a mysterious boy who appears out of nowhere and also reads minds. She discovers there’s a place she does belong, and that staying with her family will place her in grave danger. In the blink of an eye, Sophie is forced to leave behind everything and start a new life in a place that is vastly different from anything she has ever known.

Sophie has new rules to learn and new skills to master, and not everyone is thrilled that she has come “home.”
There are secrets buried deep in Sophie’s memory—secrets about who she really is and why she was hidden among humans—that other people desperately want. Would even kill for.

In this page-turning debut, Shannon Messenger creates a riveting story where one girl must figure out why she is the key to her brand-new world, before the wrong person finds the answer first.

My Rating: 4 stars(trees!)

Review: What to say? This is a really fun and unique middle grade read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I admit while I've seen this around I never even looked at it until I found out the author was coming to my town for a signing...that was a mistake because this book is awesome.

Starting out I don't know what I thought this book was about besides telepaths, but I never would have guessed it was elves(this isn't a spoiler because it's revealed in like the first chapter so it's not like some big secret). This book takes such an interesting and awesome take on elves and I just loved every minute of it.

Our main character is Sophie, and she's been able to read minds since she was five years old with no idea how to shut them out nor how she has this ability. One day she meets Fitz who takes her on an adventure and teaches her just what she is and why she has these powers. I really loved Sophie and most the side characters especially Grady and Edaline(who become her guardians) and Keefe, Fitz...not so much. At first I liked him a lot but then..just no. Mainly I think it's because he didn't play as big a part in the book as I thought he would, he seemed fairly pointless in this book.

The plot is what sells this story it's just so interesting and I love the world, which is our world and not our world. The author did an excellent job with world building and character building(for the most part). There were a few small things I didn't like, the whole thing with Sophie's parents, but these are things that actual middle grade readers won't notice and that shouldn't deter adults from reading and enjoying this book.

Overall I really enjoyed it and I have the feeling that this series overall is going to become one of my favorite middle grade series.

Would I Recommend This? Yes
Who To? Anyone looking for a fun middle grade book
Will I read more from this author(or series)? Yes.

(so I actually wrote this review months ago and never posted it... Then I realized that I haven't posted a review this week and this was all I had... I'm failing at blogging at the moment if you were wondering. =) )

  1. I'm glad you liked this, since it's one of my favorites. I was extremely surprised when it turned out to be about elves, but I think it's one of the best elf stories I've ever read. Book 2 is even better, and there's a whole lot more of Keefe in it, which is great. :) I hope you'll like it as well, and great review! :)
