Description -
Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose...

It’s winter break at St. Vladimir’s, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy’s crawling with Guardians—including Rose’s hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn’t bad enough, Rose’s tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason’s got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks... This year, St. Vlad’s annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price..

My Rating:

4.5 Stars - I loved it!
Review:

Ugh... How to explain my feelings and thoughts on this book? Basically, I loved it. These aren't the best books in the world and I know vampires tend to have a kind of no-fly zone around them, meaning a lot of people avoid vampire books, I'm normally one of them, but these books are just so much fun. They're quick paced, with fast flowing writing, kickass characters, and intriguing plots. They're the kind of books that make you smile the whole time, and that you don't want to put down because you're having so much fun with it. There's romance to root for and characters that drive you crazy but not too crazy, there's also some pretty cool vampires(they have MAGIC, and some are dead and some are not really dead), and yeah, I have no other way to describe them than that they are fun.

Are these books that are going to leave you thinking long after you've closed them? Probably not. But they're books you're most likely not going to want to put down and you're going to want to just fly through the series(if you're like me) and...you'll just have fun and reading is supposed to be fun.

Okay, I guess I should get into some spefics now, besides that the book is lots of fun to read... I definitely liked it more than the first(my review here) and I'm more convinced than ever that the main reason I didn't love the first was that I'd seen the movie and therefore knew where it was going.

In this one you see some changes in the main characters, Rose isn't so tough, as in she's drowning a bit in her feels. She has a lot going on and Lissa is kind of not on purpose ignoring her, plus then you have everything going on with Dimitri(who I'm still not sure whether I like or not) and her mom's back in town, and no matter how hard she tries to be responsible she can't seem to stop making mistakes. I still love Rose, she's still badass and snarky and she knows when she's made a mistake and she generally tries to do better. She also doesn't let romance dictate her life, which is something I appreciate in YA. I didn't like Lissa as much in this book, in the first you really felt I think that they would both do anything for each other and I felt like Lissa was kind of falling down on the job in this book. I appreciated in the first that she didn't just let Rose do everything but she doesn't really try that hard to do anything in this one.

Plot-wise, it got interesting in this one. There was more Strigoi, which I loved, and more magic, which I loved, and slightly more action, which I loved. It was just all around an awesome book.

Overall: I loved this one and it's proving my theory that this is one of those series that get better and better by the book. It still feels a bit as if it's still working on setting up the bigger plot but this one already steps up the action.

Would I Recommend This? Yes!
To Whom? Anyone looking for a fun series to marathon read.
Will I read more from this author(or series)? Definitely.

  2. I think basically everyone likes the other books in the VA series more than the first one! Because things get darker and more epic and all that. Plus the romance steps up, and Rose gets increasingly more badass haha
