Let's Talk: Do you watch book trailers?

I've never watched a book trailer. True story.

So I'm genuinely curios, do you watch book trailers? Do they help you decide whether to read a book or not?

Because honestly, the only one's I've ever seen are James Patterson ones that come on TV. I've seen occasionally, when a book trailer is released but even for my favorite series and authors(Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan) I've never actually watched a book trailer.

Am I missing out? Are they awesome? Do you LOVE them?

Am I alone in not caring about book trailers and does anyone really know why they're needed? I mean, sure once in a while you'll see them on TV but not often, so I guess people just watch them online? Am I missing something!? Because honestly, the whole book trailer thing just seems pointless to me. Maybe it's because I don't like to torture myself more than necessary, I mean, I don't even read excerpts and sneak peaks very often because it's TORTURE. Why make myself face the fact that I still have painful months to wait for a book????

This whole post boils down to one question(which I reworded like thirty thousand times) do you watch book trailers?

  1. I watch some, but not a lot since I'm very sensitive for spoilers. I loved the Mara Dyer one. And the one for Blood and Salt (so creepy). I feel like I don't really have an opinion though, I'm okay with book trailers and I would be just as okay without them. :)

    1. Fair enough. And good point, you never know when even the smallest thing might be a spoiler and, let's face it, there's not much worse in the book world than spoilers. =) I might look up the Blood and Salt one now, I'm intrigued!

  2. I haven't watched many. I tend to forget about book trailers being released unless I see a link or something, and even then it really has to grab my attention before I consider it. Usually, I've found the tone of the trailer doesn't match the tone of the book, so it just feels off.

Trailers can be cool, but they don't really influence whether or not I'll read the books.

    1. Me too, actually. The only reason I even came up with this post is my brother mentioned the Magnus Chase trailer being released and I was, wait, what? That's very true, the tone's don't to match (I watched a few after making this post) and that could honestly turn me off a book.

That's what I've gathered from most, no one really has a big opinion on it. =)

  3. Nope! I don't really like them. I want to get my own sense of what the book is about, what the characters look like, the feel, etc. I think a trailer almost ruins that experience- it's like watching the movie before reading the book!

    Also, usually they're boring ;)

    1. Exactly! Trailers always feel just..weird. Unnatural. They do tend to be boring, that's why I usually ignore them. Like, why should I waste a minute or two watching this?

  4. I don't watch any book trailers and I don't like them. The few that I have seen (mostly accidentally, when I am looking for the movie trailer) haven't been that great. The people who create the book trailers have their own ideas of what he characters are supposed to look like, but I like creating that image for myself.

    1. Yeah, I hadn't really thought of that before you and Shannon mentioned it, but that's true. I hate going into a book already having seen other people's versions of the characters, it's like Percy Jackson, after the movie came out I hated picturing Percy as Logan Lerman(luckily, it didn't last in my mind).

It seems the consensus, is that not a lot of people really care. =)
