Retelling The Story #9: Tattoo!

So I'm not linking up, first of all because this is late, second of all because from now it will be posted randomly, every week or every other week.

I haven't done an update in a while so this might be a little long winded but... ah, things are just crazy and hectic. From now these updates will be a little different, I'm not linking up because I fail at link ups. So many nice people comment and then I don't comment back and that's wrong. Also, you always get those people who tell you to enjoy your new books...and you didn't get any. It will be broken up into three parts Books (What I've been reading), Writing (what I've been working on) and Twitter (with lots of screenshots of my funny and whimsical tweets).

But first, blogging wise! I have officially kicked off this year's 13 Posts Of Halloween and it's been fun so far, but I need to get ahead on posts! Currently I am trying to find a good balance between book related posts and writing related posts. I want to post more writing stuff and I have been but then I feel like I'm overwhelming the blog with writing stuff, and ah! I've been contemplating starting a new separate writing blog. Mostly because I don't want to overwhelm this blog with writing stuff and bore you guys to death.... So really I have no idea what I'm doing. My goal is to figure out everything by January, get things organized and everything finally.

Because it's been so long I'm skipping the what I've read edition for now, but I'll add it next update!

So I've been doing things. I did Pitmad on Twitter at the beginning of last month which is a pitch fest of sorts where you tweet a pitch for your book and if an agent or editor sees it and likes it they favorite it and you query them, basically. And it was fun! This was third time for the same book but the first time since I did my big rewrite and I wasn't expecting to get any favorites, but I actually got a few which was exciting just by itself. I still haven't officially started querying yet because I wanted to take a month to step back from the novel make sure it really is ready and then start querying all over again.

So that's been going on and I started editing my July NaNo novel, Ren&Farrah which has been fun. I'm also working a little on outlining for NaNoWriMo next month!

A tattoo!

I went and got a new Tattoo last week! FINALLY. I was supposed to get one for my birthday but I was busy moving and I just never made it in and then I got this idea, something that had been in the back of my head for awhile and I just had to get it done.

It's probably my most meaningful tattoo to date and I love it. It has to do with writing and kind of a reminder to myself for when I evitably get more and more rejections. I'm about to start querying and I got turned down for this really cool mentorship (for Pitch Wars) and obviously I've had agent rejections before, which suck but I don't take too personally so it bounces off most the time. But being a writer, it's a long road full of setbacks that I haven't even started to experience yet and this tattoo is there to remind me that no matter what, even if I'm 50 before I finally get something published, I AM A WRITER.

And yes. that is Harry Potter style font and stars. My tattoo artist LOVED me for that, I'm not being sarcastic, he loved it.

Okay. Your turn! How was your week? Any new amazing books??? Did you get and/or read Carry On or Magnus Chase??? My two favorite releases of the YEAR. Tell me all the things! Please?

  1. Yeah, I've had those problems with linkups. I don't mind all of the writing stuff. I thought of doing the two blog thing, but I never have enough time for one! Congrats on querying! You're so brave! I'm stuck in an editing loop lol. I like your tattoo. The Harry Potter font was a good idea. I probably won't read Magnus Chase until after Christmas. I'm so glad it's good! I can't wait!! Enjoy the books. Just kidding!

    1. Yeah I love linkups and I think they're great for finding new blogs and everything but I never keep up with them so I figured it's pointless right now to continue to try to do them. That's my thought with the two blogs, even when I was co-blogging on a second blog I didn't have enough time! I think I just need to organize myself better and that will help. I'm glad you don't mind the writing posts, thanks for that, Molly!

I've been stuck in an editing loop for like a year now! But I do think I'm finally just about ready to query (that doesn't sound sure at all, does it?). What are you working on?

Thanks! Yeah I just wanted a cool font and the first thing to pop into my head was Harry Potter. It's ironic because it's right above my Harry Potter tattoo on my arm.

Haha, I will enjoy the books! ;)

  2. First, OMG the tattoo! I love it! HOW did I miss this on Twitter?!?! Damn Twitter. It is seriously amazing, and now I really want to get my Mockingjay one ASAP!

And I feel you with the linkups. I am stressed so, so often becaue I am replying to all the comments. And like you said, so many of them aren't even "real" comments. Like "cool list, here's mine", or "fun topic", or like, "cool books!" when all you posted is that your pet monkey died or something. UGH, but then... I can't seem to quit them. I AM doing fewer, so there's that.

And no, I didn't get any of those books. But I haven't read any of the companion books, so I guess it's okay for now :)

    Enjoy your new books!

Great post, here's the link to mine: Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight

    Hahah I had to :D

    1. Thanks! I love it too! And seriously, I hate Twitter sometimes, it's so easy to miss things! You NEED a Mockingjay tattoo! Get it immediately, you will have no regrets (I'm sure).

Lol, pet monkey died. How'd you know about Pedro!??! (who is actually my fictional pet monkey who can fly and talk, last time I checked he was still alive...I'm not joking. I used him once to get swag from an author who asked how'd you spread the word about their book). I do LOVE link ups though, especially Top Ten Tuesday which I hope to get back to soon, I just feel bad because I rush my own lists and then never look at other peoples!

It is okay for now, but you HAVE to read Fangirl, Shannon! Like, now!

  3. Oh, I love your tattoo. It's gorgeous! <3 My week was okay. I've been sick most of it, so. :/ But I did read The Sword of Summer (and LOVED it!), and I'm reading Carry On atm. I can't stop laughing about Simon's obsession with Baz. It's so cute. :)

    1. Thanks, Petra! I'm loving it too! I'm sorry you were sick, doesn't sound fun at all! And YES, the books! Sword Of Summer was amazing and I loved Simon and Baz SO MUCH. I was smiling throughout the whole book especially the beginning where Simon is so obsessed with him. I'm kind of already itching to reread it. =)
